Terms of Service
Last updated: September 20, 2026
In short
- SchoolNav is an independent tool for families. It is not part of Chicago Public Schools (CPS) or GoCPS, and you still apply and accept offers in GoCPS.
- SchoolNav gives information, not advice or promises. Nothing here guarantees an admission, an offer, a waitlist result, or a test score.
- Accounts are for adults. You are responsible for what your household does in the account, including a child who uses the practice tools.
- Paid plans are billed through Stripe. The billing section says how a Full Round ends, how a monthly plan renews and cancels, and when a refund is paid.
This box is a summary. The full text below is what applies.
1. These terms
These terms are an agreement between you and SchoolNav (“SchoolNav,” “we”), which runs schoolnav.app. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the site. The Privacy Policy explains how information is handled.
Contact: hello@schoolnav.app.
2. What SchoolNav is and is not
- SchoolNav is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or run by Chicago Public Schools, GoCPS, or any school. Applications, offers, and enrollment happen in GoCPS and with the schools. Check every date, rule, and requirement against the official source before you act on it.
- SchoolNav provides general information. It is not legal, educational, or other professional advice, and it does not make decisions for you.
- We do not guarantee admission to any school or program, any offer, any movement on a waitlist, or any test score or practice result.
- Likelihood bands, cutoff scores, points estimates, practice score estimates, and simulator results are estimates that give context. They are not odds, and they are not predictions for your child. Some of the underlying figures are transcribed from published documents or gathered from community reports, and they can be wrong or out of date. The Data sources page lists where the data comes from.
- Practice questions are original SchoolNav material written to match the published shape of each test. They are not CPS or ACT material, they are not past test questions, and neither organization has reviewed them.
3. Accounts and households
- You must be 18 or older to create an account. Children may not create accounts. A child may use the practice tools in your account only under your supervision.
- Give accurate account information, keep your password private, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for activity in your account.
- A household is the shared space for one family. The household owner chooses which adults to invite and what each adult can see or change. Add information about a child only if you are that child’s parent or legal guardian, or if that parent or guardian invited you.
- You can delete your account at any time on your Profile page. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to do any of the following.
- Break the law, or harass, threaten, or impersonate anyone.
- Post the real names or private details of parents, students, or individual school staff.
- Advertise, recruit, or sell in the community or in direct messages.
- Copy, scrape, or resell the site’s content or data in bulk, or use automated tools in a way that burdens the site.
- Try to access another household’s information, or interfere with the site’s security.
- Record anyone without the consent the law requires. Illinois requires the consent of everyone recorded. If you use tour transcription, getting that consent is your responsibility.
5. Community content
The community rules are part of these terms. Posts, answers, shared tour notes, and messages are written by users, not by SchoolNav. They are shown as written, and they are the opinion and experience of the person who wrote them. SchoolNav does not verify them, including what a person says about their own connection to a school.
You keep ownership of what you post. You give SchoolNav a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce, and summarize it within the service. The license continues after you delete your account, because your community posts stay without a link to your account. You confirm that you have the right to post what you post.
Under the community rules, we may label, pause, limit the reach of, or remove content, and we may limit or close accounts. We are not required to monitor content. To report a post, use its Report button. For a legal complaint about content, including a copyright complaint, email hello@schoolnav.app with the page address, a description of the content, and the reason.
6. Plans, billing, and refunds
- Some tools need a paid plan. The Plans page shows each plan, what it includes, and its price at the time you buy. One plan covers one household.
- Payment is handled by Stripe, and Stripe’s terms apply to the payment itself. Prices are in US dollars.
- Full Round: one payment for one application cycle. It ends when the next cycle opens on May 1, no matter when in the cycle you bought it. It does not renew on its own.
- Monthly: a subscription that renews and charges each month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time under Manage billing on the Plans page. After you cancel, the plan stays active until the end of the month you already paid for, and that month is not refunded.
- Moving down from a Full Round plan: you can move down one plan level on the Plans page. When you do, we refund the unused share of the price difference, prorated by day, to the card you paid with. The page shows the amount before you confirm.
- Add-ons: a coach session pack is a one-time purchase. Its sessions can be used only in the cycle in which you bought it.
- Failed payments: if a monthly payment fails, the plan stays active while Stripe retries the card. If the retries fail, the household moves to the Free plan.
- When a plan ends or you move down, the tools of the higher plan switch off. What you entered is kept.
- For any other refund request, email hello@schoolnav.app. Nothing in these terms limits a refund right that the law gives you.
- If we change a price, the new price applies to purchases made after the change. A monthly plan renews at a new price only after we have told you about it.
7. AI tools
Some tools use AI models from other companies to write answers, summaries, or suggestions. AI output can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date, so check it against the official source before you rely on it. Plans that include AI tools include a set number of sessions or messages, and the app shows the count. The Privacy Policy says what is sent to the AI providers.
8. Our content
The site, its design, its text, its practice questions, and the way it organizes data belong to SchoolNav or its licensors. You may use them for your own household’s school search. Data from public sources remains subject to its publisher’s terms. “CPS,” “GoCPS,” and the names of tests belong to their owners and are used only to refer to them.
9. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, SchoolNav disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or free of errors, or that any data, estimate, or AI output is accurate, complete, or current.
10. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, SchoolNav and its owners, staff, and contractors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for a lost admission, offer, or opportunity, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for all claims about the service is limited to the larger of two amounts: what you paid SchoolNav in the 12 months before the claim arose, or 100 US dollars. Some laws do not allow some of these limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
11. Changes, governing law, and other terms
- Changes: we may change these terms. We will post the new version here with a new date. If a change is significant, we will tell account holders by email or in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using the service after that, you accept the new terms.
- Governing law: the laws of the State of Illinois govern these terms, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. The state and federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois, have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, unless the law where you live gives you a right that cannot be waived.
- If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we do not enforce a term, we have not waived it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours as part of a sale or merger.
